Custom Card Printing & Finishes

Custom Card Printing

Full Color Printing Process / CMYK Printing:

CMYK stands for four ink colors - Cyan, Magenta, Yellow and Black.
A printing press applies the four CMYK ink colors in successive layers. By overlapping these four ink colors in various concentrations, a huge number of other colors can be created. As a result, the combined visual effects of these four CMYK colors produce what we commonly know as Full Color Printing.
CMYK will produce full, dark, rich and vibrant colors to bring your project on paper to life!

4C/0C and 4C/4C are common printing terminology terms and basically means single or double sided printing.

  • 4C/0C refers to printing 4 colors on one side of the paper and 0 colors on the other side of the paper.
  • 4C/4C means 4 colors printed on both sides of the paper.

Spot Color Printing

We primarily use one printing method: CMYK (cyan, magenta, yellow, and key/black). But some work is better suited to spot colour printing.
The ink color is mixed separately by hand and applied to the finished document via the offset press using a separate printing plate.
They allow you to print something non-traditional, such as vivid fluorescent colours or metallic tones. Spot colour ink printing is also ideal for consistency, so if you print a design with a logo, the ink application will ensure every print is uniform.

Custom Card Finishes about Coating

Varnish

It is the most common finish type used for cards.
Varnish is a clear, transparent coating that is applied to a printed piece during or after printing. Varnish is often added to cards to protect the printed material against fingerprints, smudges and scuffs, and to enhance the depth of the card’s colors and overall appearance for a distinctive style.

  • Gloss Varnish
Produces a smooth surface. It creates a contrasting effect while increasing the depth of color and detail.
  • Matt Varnish
Matte gives your card design a more subtle, soft appearance. Because matte varnish is a non-reflective service, card with a lot of text, or text that needs to be read from a distance is better served by using a matte varnish as opposed to gloss
Aqueous coating

Aqueous is a clear, fast-drying water-based coating. Aqueous coatings provide more substantial scuff-resistance than varnishes. Due to its water base, aqueous coating is more environmentally friendly than varnish or UV coatings.

  • Gloss Aqueous Coating
The results of using a gloss aqueous coating is a printed card that has a nice shine and feel to it and is protected from scratches and scuffing better than gloss varnishing.
  • Matte Aqueous Coating
This coating gives the final printed piece a nice subtle finish. Matte aqueous coating allows your images to remain bright and clean while adding a layer of protection to the final print.
UV Coating

UV coating is a clear liquid applied to paper substrates and then cured using ultraviolet light for a high gloss-like surface effect.
The UV coating process is done after printing using a UV coating machine.

  • Gloss UV
It provides the glossiest of all coatings. If you’re looking for brilliant gloss and a beautiful patina, gloss UV is a good option.
  • Matte UV
Matte finishing gives off a feeling of elegance and luxury.
  • Spot UV
The only difference is that rather than generously applying the coating to the surface of packaging, it is only applied to specified areas. This could include, logos, text or images. Spot UV helps bring more dimension to packaging designs by highlighting important elements.
Lamination

In the printing industry, lamination refers to the process of bonding a clear plastic film onto printed matter to make it. Printed pieces are laminated to protect them from stains, smudges, moisture, wrinkles, tears or anything else that might shorten their useful life. In addition to protection, print lamination also adds strength and rigidity.

  • Matt lamination
produces an elegant, sophisticated finish. It also provides a softer, more natural look that makes it easier to read the printed piece.
  • Gloss lamination
It produces a shiny, glass-like appearance that enhances the color and vibrancy of the ink on a page.
  • Soft Touch Laminate
Soft touch lamination, sometimes called  Cellotouch, offers a protective finish with a matt effect and a soft, velvet-like texture that exudes quality.  It gives an instantaneous high-end feel to any printed material.
  • Anti-Scratch Laminate
It offers similar finish to standard matt laminate but with the added benefit of scratch resistance. This finishing technique is especially effective when used over darker printed areas, as they tend to show up marks and scratches more than lighter shades.
